The Enduring Legacy of James Bond: A Multi-Generational Phenomenon

Great character created by the writer Ian Fleming, who at least to my credit we have seen for three generations.

My father was a fan of the character, this server and therefore my children also admire him. It’s not just the science fiction aspects that they show, the landscapes around the world, the character himself, the women, the stories, the comedy, the drama, and more than anything this entails.

A character who is a gourmet, a fine taster, a specialist in any type of weapons, personal defense, who dresses fashionably, but with taste, and for me endless qualities.

But I can’t leave aside the number of musical hits and stars who have performed the themes of the Bond films. Monty Norman is the author of the main theme and John Barry made the orchestral arrangements to perform it with his orchestra; That’s why everyone thinks it’s his authorship.

And we cannot deny that, when listening to the song, it transports us to the character, but singers of the stature of Sheena Easton, Alicia Keys, Madonna, Gladys Knight, Duran Duran, Adele, Paul McCartney, Sam Smith, Chris Cornell, Carley Simon, Billie Ellish and Tom Jones and Jack White, among others.

All of them have a long career, but Bond has given his career another window to the world and, of course, today it is very important to be the interpreter of the theme of one of these films.

In “Operation Thunder” (Thunderball), the great Tom Jones was the interpreter of the song that Shirley Bassey would sing, but due to production company issues it was not like that. Shirley Bassey is known worldwide for being the musical performer who has sung a song for a James Bond film the most times.

Specifically, three films from the saga of the most famous British secret service agent: “Goldfinger”in 1964; “Diamonds are eternal”, in 1971; and “Moonraker”, in 1979.

As you can see, Bond is more than a handsome boy, dream cars, beautiful women and majestic settings. Sean Connery (1962-1967 and 1983), George Lazenby (1969), Roger Moore (1972-1985), Timothy Dalton (1986-1994), Pierce Brosnan (1994-2004) and Daniel Craig (2005-2021). And although the Ian Flemming stories are over and Bond died in the last film, I’m sure we’ll have Bond for a while. Until next week.
