This project is largely intended to make visiting this place as unattractive as possible to people who still glorify the Nazi dictator. The decision to hand over the building to the police was already taken at the end of 2019. It is planned that the building will house a police station, the district police department and a branch of the security academy. The police will be able to start work in the premises at the beginning of 2026.
The years-long dispute over ownership of the building was resolved only in 2017, when Austria’s highest court ruled that the government had the right to expropriate the building after its owner refused to sell it voluntarily. However, the suggestion that the building could be demolished was rejected.
