The starting position before the home game against UHC Winterthur United promised excitement, as the Winterthur team were behind the Appenzeller team in the 1st league table. During our years together in a class lower, there were always interesting games against each other. Unihockey Appenzell and Winterthur United were highly motivated to win their first meeting in the first league.
Both teams started focused and wanted to control the game. However, the home team managed this much better. It still took a good 10 minutes to take the lead. But then the Appenzellers struck twice within 1 minute: Julian Alder and the returnee Michael Sutter shot the Innerrhoders in front. It remained 2-0 until the first break.
In the middle third it was the Appenzellers who controlled the majority of the game. Although the chances weren’t plentiful, the men’s 1 team from UH Appenzell were able to extend their lead. First Joel Untersander and then Aldo Blaser scored for a 4-0 lead. As a result, the guests played in the majority and took the chance to make it 1:4. With that we went into the second break.
In the final third, the home team wanted to keep the game under control and secure victory. This project got off to an excellent start, with the fifth UHA goal just 24 seconds after the start of the final period. Afterwards, the Innerrhoders made life difficult for themselves with unnecessary penalties and fouls in their own zone. This led to hope rising again among the Zurich guests. This became even greater with the 2:5 in the 48th minute. But Julian Alder dashed Winterthur United’s hopes with his third goal just 2 minutes later. With this goal the visitors’ resistance was broken. The home team scored three more goals before the end of the game. UH Appenzell won the game easily with 9:2.
After the game, three long-time UHA players who played for Innerrhoden last season were bid farewell. These are Sepp Räss, Andrin Sutter and Lukas Sutter.
