Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karic told protesters that the city knows “what it’s like to live without water and food and see children being killed,” referring to the 1992-95 siege during which Serb forces killed an estimated 11,000 city residents, in including 1,600 children.
Bosnia is still recovering from the 1992-95 war that split the country between two entities – the Serbian Orthodox Christian majority Republika Srpska and the Muslim-majority Bosnian-Croat Federation.
Smaller pro-Palestinian protests in the region took place in Belgrade and the Montenegrin capital Podgorica on Sunday.
Saturday around 100 thousand people went to a pro-Palestinian rally in London.
And in Dublin last week, pro-Palestinian demonstrators briefly “occupied” the office of the European Commission.
