NYPD Officer Arrested for Distributing Fentanyl and Heroin

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York reported that an NYPD officer, identified as Grace Rosa Báez, 37, was arrested for distributing fentanyl and heroin.

A man with whom the officer lived, named César Martínez (43), was also arrested. Both are charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and heroin and distribution of narcotics.

The federal prosecutor for the southern district of New York, Damian Williams, announced the charges on Friday and regretted that a member of the Police had volunteered for criminal acts.

Grace Rosa Báez had been part of the NYPD for more than 10 years, but began to be investigated in 2020, after accusations of misconduct.

His relationship with the other arrested person, César Martínez, is still unclear.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, both defendants offered to sell kilogram quantities of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine to a confidential source. They allegedly had numerous conversations between October 9 and 18.

However, they never discovered that this source was working with authorities on wholesale narcotics trafficking. They always believed he was a drug dealer.

In one of the approaches, Grace Rosa Báez told the source that the fentanyl was top quality. And at another meeting she handed him a plastic candy container with a sample of the drug. The NYPD confirmed that the sample did contain fentanyl.

During the following days, the Prosecutor’s Office details, the officer offered to sell heroin and cocaine, which was evidenced in recorded conversations.

“If convicted of these allegations, this officer will have tarnished the shield she carried, as well as her sacred oath to New Yorkers,” said NYPD Police Commissioner Edward. They finished.
