Furthermore, it says that the countries welcome Friday’s release of two American Hamas hostages, and they ask that the remaining hostages be released immediately.

The countries commit to close diplomatic cooperation, including with important partners in the region, to prevent the conflict from spreading, it says in the statement.

4,741 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes against the Palestinian enclave, and close to 16,000 have been injured since October 7, Gaza’s health authorities announced on Sunday. Israel has also stated that 1,500 Hamas fighters were killed in the fighting that occurred inside Israel during the attack on 7 October.

On the Israeli side, more than 1,400 people have been killed since Hamas attacked, according to the Israeli army (IDF). Among those killed, at least 307 are said to be soldiers.
