NEW YORK.- In its first edition, Dominican Voices (D’Voice), brought together prominent Dominicans in the entertainment industry in the United States, who talked about the challenges of standing out and finding their space in places like Hollywood, where few Latinos have arrived.

Its creators, Carlos Lamarche and Waldo Tejada, opened a space for artists such as Dascha Polanco, Aida Rodríguez, Sandy Hernández, Raúl López (fashion designer), Osmany Rodríguez (filmmaker and former producer of Saturday Night Live), and other prominent figures , they will talk with those present about their life stories.

«I always dreamed of events like these existing and finally it is here. This has been created for the new generations of Dominicans, for the youth, so that they have a role model that allows them to identify themselves and know that they too can achieve it,” said Lamarche at the beginning of the event in which Diario Libre was present.

In the first panel, led by journalist Johanna Ferreira, from Pop Sugar and Oprah Magazine; Lulú Cordero and Maritza Abreu, both entrepreneurs, talked about their projects and how they have managed to stand out over the years.

In the case of Maritza, creator of Pquisqueya, a spicy sauce that has stood out on social networks after the rapper Cardi B appeared on a TV program, recommending it, she says that she decided to create it, because “she couldn’t find its flavor.” .

His parents own a restaurant in Brooklyn called “Puerto Viejo,” where they now make their own sauces and seasonings.

Lulú Cordero, creator of “Bomba”, a beauty line specialized in curly hair that is currently sold in more than 40 establishments around the United States such as Walmart and Target.

«It is very normal in our culture to see that women worry about their hair, and always have it straight, but they worry little about its natural texture, so what this brand has shown and the success it has had is an example of that we are breaking those barriers,” Cordero said on the panel.

Raúl López, one of the D’Voice panelists and creator of the Luar brand, was chosen in 2022 as the winner of the CFDA Award for accessories designer of the year, the largest fashion award in the United States.

The Dominican designer spoke about the difficulties he faced not in society but also within his family to dedicate himself to the fashion industry.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, the son of Dominican parents, he talked about how he managed to get into design school and how he was inspired by the streets to create his style and develop.
