Košice’s Disappointing Loss in Nike League Match and Struggles in Recent Games

Immediately after the final whistle, some players fell to the ground. As if they lost a decisive match. Although it wasn’t decisive, the Košice side was nevertheless extremely disappointed.

The rookie of the Nike League in the meeting against Banská Bystrica only underlined the current unflattering period. Not only did he lose his sixth league game in a row, but the manner in which he went about it was particularly frustrating.

The team from Košice entered the match excellently. They were leading 2-0 in the 11th minute and had a few more promising signs. From their speech on the field, you could feel the desire to end the unfavorable series.

But it didn’t last long. Gradually, the opponent took the initiative, and it was too easy to create chances. He transformed four of them and suddenly everything was different. An absolute lack of confidence crept into the ranks of the Košice team to do anything with an unfavorable score.

He doesn’t even know if it can be commented on

“We had a fantastic start to the match. The first 20 minutes were exactly as we imagined. Then, for incomprehensible reasons, we were everywhere a step or two late. We somehow managed to keep it up until halftime. I don’t even know if it’s possible to comment on the second half. We were nowhere. We scored three goals and could have scored more. I really don’t know why we stopped playing after an excellent start. I am very sad and disappointed,” said a shaken Michal Faško.

The performance of one of the offensive leaders of the Košice team, who came to the east of Slovakia in the summer from Banská Bystrica, was perhaps the best barometer of Saturday’s performance of the home team.

In the beginning, he played excellently and caused great problems for his former teammates. He started the action in a great way before the first goal, which he served to captain Erik Pačinda as if on a tray. However, he gradually disappeared. He was often too cut off from the center of gravity of the game and the support of his teammates.

“Six losses in a row is extremely high. We repeat it every game, but we have to somehow get out of it and break it.” remarked Faško.

They change the lineup, but it doesn’t fit

Although Košice are new to the league, they have enough experienced players in their squad. Nevertheless, they were worried about the result and did not stop the critical situation.

“We had a brilliant start to the match. We went into a two-goal lead, but after going down to 2-1, we stopped working. The courage we had in the first 25 minutes was disappearing. The difference player was Polievka. He showed that he belongs where he is. He took responsibility and put the opponent on his feet.” stated FC Košice coach Anton Šoltis after the meeting.

news-item-description">“Let people say what they want. I will play my football,” stated Róbert Polievka after the meeting in Košice. The captain of Banská Bystrica was the central figure of the duel and contributed to the great turnaround of his team.

Defensively, he doesn’t manage to hit the ideal line-up. The Košice team conceded 25 goals in 11 matches, which is the most among all teams.

“We get very easy goals. We keep trying to change the line-up, but it doesn’t fit. It’s also a shame about Pétro Varga’s injury, I hope he won’t have a torn anterior cruciate ligament. We’ll see after the MRI,” commented Šoltis in the address of the player, who only recently jumped into the game after problems with the achilles. After one of the fights, shortly after the break, he had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.

Šoltis: Officials decide, not spectators

During the match, the Košice coach had to listen to the chanting of the fans who demanded his end. After the meeting, he responded with a level voice.

“They also shouted at the coaches in front of me. Now they are yelling at me. And when someone comes after me, maybe they’ll be on him. Every team has a negative period, it lasts longer, but it belongs to football. We have objective reasons, and if that’s their opinion, so be it, but then they’re fans of success. Whether I will be the coach or someone else is decided by the officials and not by them.” Soltis let himself be heard.

news-item-description">They entered the league with high expectations. They got off to a solid start, then got bogged down and the problems started piling up. The representatives of Košice football were visited by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó in recent days.

The screams, of course, did not escape the players on the field either.

“I recorded it. I’m disappointed in that too. We are on the pitch, fighting for the coach, ourselves and especially for this club. It’s also our business card that they shout at him,” remarked Faško.

There is not much time to worry

The team from Košice concluded the first half of the regular season with a match against Banská Bystrica. The next time they will be playing on the pitch of Slovan Bratislava, then they will welcome Dunajská Streda or Trnava. Even before the duel at Slovana, in the 4th round of the Slovnaft Cup, they will face second-league Šamorín on Wednesday.

“It’s a good thing there isn’t much time to worry about it. We have important matches in the league, in which we have nothing to lose, but we have to present ourselves as we did in the first 20 minutes against Banská Bystrica. That means being dangerous going forward and especially compact,” emphasized Faško.

“The most important thing is for the boys to believe in each other. However, if you don’t get results, your confidence goes down. This time they were fighting on the field, but then there was a short circuit that shouldn’t have happened. If we knew why, we would fix it right away. The team and the players who want to play in the league have to go through it. There is no other way. The first league is about something different than the second,” Soltis added.
