Bad weather affects mainland Portugal
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed five districts in the south of the country under orange warning this Sunday, due to the passage of Depression Bernard, warning of sometimes heavy precipitation.
According to the IPMA, for Évora, between 12:00 and 18:00 this Sunday, “rainfall, sometimes heavy, may be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts”.
In Faro, the warning is in force between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm, also covering sea disturbances and wind, which can register gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
For Setúbal, a similar warning remains in place between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, and for Beja, the alert is in effect between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Portalegre has an orange warning between 12pm and 6pm.
IPMA also issued yellow warnings for Santarém, Lisbon and Castelo Branco due to precipitation.
According to IPMA, the orange warning is issued whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation”. The yellow warning applies in “risk situations for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation”.
