Students from IUT Thionville-Yutz discovered the new face of the university library. The place has been redesigned to adapt to new uses and the documentary collection has been renewed. Soon, a new third place will be added.

Pistachio green walls, modular and ergonomic furniture like these high tables with a view of the patio, a relaxation area also with its very tempting lovers, freely accessible computers… In recent days, the students of the IUT Thionville Yutz have done familiar with the new university library and they see it as a serious change. A shelf for leisure reading (comics, magazines, etc.) has also been created, just to provide the conviviality that was lacking until then.
A small closed room has been created: it is reserved for students who must work in groups, independently or under the supervision of a teacher. “The BU needed to be upgraded. She was IUT age,” confirms the director, Antonietta Specogna.
Find the right information
The novelty also comes from the documentary collection which has been profoundly renewed. Certain works are still expected in the coming days, in particular those relating to hygiene, safety and the environment to satisfy the latest addition to the IUT teaching departments.

Despite the rise in digital resources, the paper edition still remains a safe bet for those wishing to deepen their knowledge or work on a specialized subject. For doctoral students in particular, it is a must.
“We play on the interconnection between the two types of resources. Moreover, we carry out extensive mediation work with users to better promote electronic resources. The field is so vast on the internet that it is necessary to train students in research methods,” explains Charlotte Dessaint, head of the IUT Lorraine BU network.
A BU open to the outside
Not everyone may know it, but the IUT library is open to everyone. “In Thionville, there is a small core of fairly loyal outside readers. This is also an aspect that we wish to develop,” indicates Charlotte Dessaint, who sees it as a way of putting down roots “as close as possible to the territories”.
Another detail: the BU is able to bring in books from other libraries in the Lorraine network. “Just order; there is a shuttle system between sites; It only takes a few days.”
And soon a third place to talk about artificial intelligence
Adjoining the IUT library, another room is revealed: for the moment, it is cluttered with boxes where we can imagine digital equipment, (almost) giant screens, a tangle of cables… This is the future third place which will be connected with other sites belonging, such as the IUT Nord Moselle, to the CaMéx-IA network, one of the nine Campuses of Professions and Qualifications in the Grand Est region dedicated to artificial intelligence. “Innovation is part of what is expected at the IUT, where we offer professional training,” recalls Antonietta Specogna. This third location will open in a few weeks. It will allow students but also regional companies to develop projects and events within the CaMéx-IA network.
