The blades of Canadian figure skaters seem well sharpened for the 2023-24 season.
At the Skate America competition in Allen, Texas, the duo of Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud won the silver medal in the pairs competition, placing behind the German pair of Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkle .
The Canadians finished Friday’s short program in second place with a performance that earned them 63.33 points. During Saturday’s free skate, the judges awarded them a score of 119.37 points, for a grand total of 182.59.
They finished just 1.64 behind the Germans.
In dance, Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha began their season Saturday afternoon with a score of 77.80 points during the rhythmic program, good for second position before Sunday’s free program.
Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States rank first in the competition while France’s Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud are just behind the Canadians in third place.
In the men’s competition, Stephen Gogolev is seventh following Friday’s short program after scoring 74.73.
