The civil guards do not need to be told why we are living in an age of danger, since they helped protect against the Covid-19 epidemic, they are there at the southern border, in case of any natural disaster, or even when securing local events, said Bence Rétvári. He added,
security is at the center of all civil guard activities.
However, security is increasingly under threat in several countries, which is why the activities of civil guards and the cooperation between the state and the civil guard are important, the state secretary continued. He said that the civil guard is “one of the successful products of the regime change”, many of them have the ability to sacrifice a small or large part of their own free time for the sake of safety.
Next year’s budget will increase resources devoted to law enforcement and public safety by HUF 168 billion
– said Bence Rétvári. He also said that there are about three thousand more police officers on duty today than in 2010. The cooperation between the civil guard and the police is good, and it has already taken legal form, the civil guards can thus perform the task within the legal framework, the joint patrol service at the southern border – he added, stating that their work is very necessary.
The Secretary of State pointed out that
Borders are rising again in Europe.
When we joined the European Union, we thought it was a safe and unified area in which there was no longer a need for internal border control, said Bence Rétvári.
He pointed out that the member states – France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden and Slovenia – are now introducing border controls one by one. The member states of the hitherto unified European Union have introduced more than twenty border control measures, the state secretary announced.
The permeable, free area has suffered cracks and is in such a gloomy situation as never before since the creation of the union
he stated.
He emphasized: in principle, these are temporary measures, but those who introduced them are preparing to maintain these so-called temporary measures in the long term as long as this level of illegal migration and the threat of terrorism exists.
Border control is not only disadvantageous from a convenience point of view, but also from a competitive point of view, as it also hinders the free flow of goods and labor
– added Bence Rétvári. He highlighted:
the background is that the member states were not able to protect their public security, the threat of terrorism is such that no one would have thought of it before.
However, Hungary protects the external border
he said. He stated that whoever protects the external border does not need to build an internal border. An internal border must be built by those who do not contribute to the protection of the external border.
The state secretary said that the various European Union proposals act as a “migrant magnet”, but even the leaders of the European Union are saying what the Hungarian government said in 2015 – that since the external borders can be crossed, an internal border must be built – they just don’t act like that .
And the threat only grows and grows
said Bence Rétvári. He talked about how those who come to Europe legally can buy a flight ticket for two hundred thousand forints, while those who arrive illegally pay 2-5 million to human smugglers.
Legal arrival is cheaper, simpler, and safer, but the overwhelming majority of them arrive with the help of people smugglers
the state secretary pointed out. More and more Afghan groups are taking over the entire organization of migration, and they are playing around with the laws of the Union in an increasingly organized way, he noted.
