the essentials Passionate about his profession, Major Mottard ended his long military career in Grisolles (Tarn-et-Garonne), south of Montauban, where he has just taken command of the community of gendarmerie brigades.
Quiet fifty years old, long field experience, passionate and discreet at the same time, loving to communicate and close to his men, these are some of the personality traits of Major Mottard who took up his duties as commander of the brigade community Grisolles-Villebrumier on Thursday October 19.
Grisolles, where he has served as brigade commander since 2021, is an old story. Originally from Loir-et-Cher, non-commissioned officer from the Châtellerault school, he was then appointed to the Paris region, to Guadeloupe then to Souillac.
“I like the field, managing emergencies”
Finally Grisolles in 2008 where he settled with his family. In 2012, a position in Montech then Fenouillet, before, in a way, “returning home”.
Jean-Claude Mottard became a police officer by choice. He says: “I come from a military family, my two grandfathers, my cousins, my son-in-law, all soldiers. I have always wanted to be of service to my fellow citizens. The firefighters also attracted me but I did my military service in the gendarmerie, which decided my life.”
His thirty or so years in the gendarmerie? “I am passionate about my job, I like going into the field, managing emergencies, even serious cases, but here I will be more in administration, relations with elected officials, personnel management. We are also understaffed, we lack people for everything we have to manage…”.
Towards a quieter family life…
The new commander, married and father of two daughters (also married), likes his life made up of unexpected events and rather hectic, stressful, “but I have safety valves, gardening, traveling.” Yet he also aspires to finally have a quieter family life with simple moments like spending Christmas and New Year’s Eve with family, which is impossible while you are in office. It will be in a few years, retirement is not so far away.
