A Japanese transport plane carrying Japanese and Korean nationals from Israel arrived in Tokyo, Japan this morning (21st).
Japanese media, including NHK, reported that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force KC767 aerial refueling and transport aircraft departed from Israel on the 19th local time, flew through Jordan and Singapore, and landed at Tokyo Haneda Airport on the same day.
There were 5 people on board the transport plane, including 60 Japanese, 18 Koreans, and their foreign family members.
Previously, the Korean government sent a military transport plane to Israel on the 14th to evacuate 163 Koreans, 51 Japanese, and 6 Singaporeans to Korea.
At the time, the Korean government announced that it had brought Japanese and Singapore citizens on board the plane for humanitarian reasons.
U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel commented on the Korean government’s decision on the 16th, saying, “This act of solidarity will be a signal for future cooperation and mutual understanding between countries.”
Meanwhile, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that about 800 Japanese nationals are currently staying in Israel and Palestine.
The Ministry of Defense reported that two Self-Defense Force aircraft are on standby in nearby countries in preparation for the possibility of additional evacuations.
