The road work in the Glaskartunnel on the E39 outside Bergen has recently led to periodically long queues and thus restless motorists who sneak in to get there faster.
Åsane Newspaper mentioned the matter first.
Motorists driving north on Åsaneveien choose to take the exit in Eidsvåg, make the round at the Mo center and rejoin the queue via the on-ramp.
Using this manoeuvre, motorists can weave in just before the tunnel and end up further forward in the queue.

ÅT writes that the police have received several reports from irritated motorists about sneaking in connection with the work in the tunnel.
Police station chief in Bergen North, Torbjørn Mørk, has himself observed the rude sneaking methods.
– We drive there ourselves and have observed it, both in private on the way to work, and when we have been on duty, Mørk explains to Dagbladet.

He expresses that it does not pose a problem, as long as you drive carefully. He equally understands that it can create frustration for other motorists.
– It’s not something we want to happen, we want people to drive with consideration, he continues.
Mørk emphasizes that there is no specific legal authority that regulates such a problem and that it is also not illegal to sneak in the queue.

Work on the tunnel between Bergen city center and Åsane began on 21 August, and it should be completed in the second quarter of 2025.
The technical equipment in the tunnel needs upgrading to meet the requirements of the tunnel safety regulations. This includes, among other things, ventilation systems, lighting, drainage and camera surveillance.
– It will be challenging times for motorists in and around Bergen north. But this is necessary to bring the tunnels up to today’s standard, construction manager Kristian Dahle Sylta stated in a press release from State Highways Authority.
In addition to the tunnel upgrade, it will be possible to run two-way traffic in each of the runs in the Glaskartunnel.

– There are already two roads to be merged, in addition to the fact that the on-ramp will also now be merged. Overall, I think it creates more queues, Mørk explains to Dagbladet.
He makes a clear recommendation:
– Hold the queue, show consideration, be flexible and help each other, and everyone will get there faster.
