Cedarville University Robotics Team Wins ASEE Competition for the Tenth Time

Cedarville University’s robotics team, comprised of 19 freshman and sophomore engineering students, recently won the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Robotics competition. This is the tenth time in 23 years that a Cedarville University team has won the event.

The team, under the guidance of Dr. Clint Kohl, the faculty advisor, spends 16 weeks each fall and spring working on their robot for the competition. This commitment has proven to be a great learning opportunity for the students.

The winning entry, called “Star Spangled Defender,” was able to launch nerf balls into containers representing “tall ships” and knock down assault vehicles attacking “Fort Henry.” The team designed a custom-printed circuit board to house the necessary electronics for the robot’s functionality. This innovation played a crucial role in their success.

Since 2001, Cedarville University’s robotics team has achieved ten first-place finishes, four second-place finishes, and four third-place finishes. They plan to continue their winning streak in next year’s ASEE competition in Portland, Oregon.
