The French government has concluded that an explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip was not caused by an Israeli airstrike.
According to Reuters on the 20th (local time), the French Military Intelligence Service (DRM) announced that there was no evidence that the explosion at Al-Ahli Hospital in the Gaza Strip was caused by an Israeli airstrike, and that it was most likely caused by a rocket from a Palestinian armed group.
DRM said that it confirmed that there was not a large puddle in the explosion area, but a hole about 75 to 100 cm in diameter and 30 to 40 cm deep.
DRM pointed out, “To achieve this result, approximately 5 kg of explosives are needed. It is certain that it was not more than 10 kg.”
He continued, “The most likely hypothesis is that a Palestinian rocket loaded with about 5 kg of explosives exploded,” and added, “There is no evidence that it was due to an Israeli airstrike.”
He then assessed that it did not appear to be an airstrike by the Israeli military, considering that the minimum explosive load of the Israeli military’s bombs or missiles was much larger than this.
On the other hand, it is believed that the explosive payload of 5 kg is highly likely to match the rockets of Palestinian armed groups.
DRM added that it decided to make the analysis results public in accordance with the French Presidential Palace’s request for transparency.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he was in direct contact with Hezbollah to prevent the armed conflict between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah from escalating.
“We sent a very direct message to Hezbollah through our embassies and institutions,” President Macron said.
“We will do our best to avoid an escalation of the situation, but the level of tension and pressure is very high and the security situation is still clearly unstable,” he added.
