The intensification of the Russian invaders in the areas of Avdeevka – Marinka and Kupyansk – Liman indicates the likely preparation of a new offensive. This opinion was expressed on October 20 by the head of Estonian military intelligence, Colonel Ants Kiviselg, as quoted by ERR.
It is noted that if in the summer 20–40 attacks per day were recorded there, now on average 76 attacks per day occur in these areas.
Although the Russian Federation calls these actions active defense, it is likely that in the coming weeks the occupiers will try to build on their success by sending additional forces to the east and northeast of Ukraine to go on the offensive, Kiviselg emphasized.
In his opinion, an additional indicator is the transfer of weapons by North Korea to the Russian Federation. The amount of ammunition that the DPRK sent should be enough for a month and a half of the war, Kiviselg believes.
He added that with winter approaching, the Russian Federation will again begin attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. They can be expected “in the coming weeks or month,” summarized the head of Estonian military intelligence.
Context:
The aggressor country of the Russian Federation launched a war against Ukraine in 2014, when it occupied Crimea and parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine from the northern, eastern and southern directions.
In April, defense forces expelled the invaders from the northern regions of Ukraine, and in the fall they deoccupied parts of the Kherson, Nikolaev and Kharkov regions.
On June 5, 2023, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced that in some areas the defense forces had switched to offensive actions. Later there were reports of the de-occupation of settlements in the east and south.
In October, the occupiers launched an offensive near Avdiivka, trying to surround the city.
