For their first day of joint strike, the ASHs from several Bordeaux hospital sites met in front of the ARS this Thursday. Accompanied by supporters, they sent a clear message to their management: as long as working conditions and salaries do not change, they will extend and amplify the mobilization.
“Elior, Elior, you’re going to pay or it’s going to go bad,” the hospital service agents chant with all their might. This Thursday noon, in a festive, combative and determined atmosphere, several dozen ASH (hospital service agents) gathered in front of the Gironde Regional Health Agency in Bordeaux to express their anger. Delegations from several sites were present: Langon, the Pellegrin University Hospital, Haut Lévêque, Saint-André and the Pessac mutual clinic. They all came to denounce their working conditions and demand salary increases.
Convergence of anger against Elior and the working conditions imposed
At the initiative of the ASH at Langon hospital, on strike for 3 weeks, this gathering saw the light of day thanks to the work of expanding the conflict by the strikers, who increased their visits to the different sites. At the microphone of Révolution Permanente, Francesca returns to this approach: “At the beginning, we were alone, they tried to put obstacles in our way. But we didn’t stop, we found support, we went to other sites to see if the working conditions were the same and we realized that they were similar, or even worse. From there and the discussions, we quickly saw that agents from other sites were ready to follow the mobilization. »
Indeed, at the rally, between two dances and shouts of slogans, the anger was palpable for all of the ASH. The delegation of strikers from the Pellegrin University Hospital protested at the microphone of Révolution Permanente, like Arlette, ASH for 2 years at the University Hospital: “We wake up at 4 a.m., we start working at 5 a.m., we are not paid for night hours, we do the work of two people, we work overtime, we do not have safety shoes, we have to wash our infected gowns at home, because Elior does not doesn’t do it. »
Following him, a second ASH spoke up and denounced the daily contempt they suffered: “The worst was after Covid, we had zero bonuses. I worked days and nights, in the morning, in the evening I did replacements at the nursery. The State promised it for the entire hospital, but we, ASH, got nothing. I can tell you that the salary is not what gives us morale, on the contrary, we continue to work only through pressure. Constantly: “do this, then this, then do this”, it doesn’t stop. We have to clean the stalls in two hours, it’s crazy. And when we’re done, we’re told “do the complaints, do the floors, do the scrubber”. We can’t take it anymore, we’re fed up. Every morning, we come with a knot in our stomachs with stress, at 5 a.m. not even a hello, a thank you. » In the middle of the conversation, an ASH adds that they are paid “by the task, not by the hour. This means that even during our breaks, we don’t get paid! »
The strikers call out to their management in unison: “Come and see what we are doing, clean just one box and see how long it takes with the equipment you provide us. We’ll see if, like us, you can cover the entire Pellegrin University Hospital in one day, you’ll understand that we’re not Spiderman. »
” This is just the beginning “
“Tomorrow, we continue the strike, we are not going back to work, they have to listen to us,” says Arlette to set the tone for the future. Indeed, received as a delegation this Thursday by the ARS, the ASHs were surprised to find that the latter claimed not to be aware of their working conditions. Francesca explains to us: “We told them about the way we were treated at Elior, they told us that they were not aware. For us, it is important to be clear with them, to make them responsible so that they can no longer say tomorrow that they did not know. Now they must act. »
Francesca gives a positive assessment of this day which is only a stage for her: “Today’s gathering did us a lot of good, we found ourselves among colleagues from different sites. All ASHs are courageous, it’s not easy for us, but we will continue, and I am convinced that the movement will continue to grow. We are only the first line, others will follow behind us. »
Finally, during the speeches, Marie-Laure Charchar, general secretary of the CGT laundry of the Bordeaux University Hospital and activist at Révolution Permanente, once again underlined the positive aspects of this mobilization: “This inter-site gathering would never have been possible without your body and soul investment from Langon, without being unionized and without the support of unions to spread the word! Now your strike has a ton of potential, and it’s entirely up to you. It’s yours, you decide and no one else. We will be at your side, we will support you, and we will advocate for your decisions alongside you. »
The workers from each site met the next day in front of the mutual clinic from 9:30 a.m., and They will meet Monday morning in front of the Pellegrin University Hospital to come and support them. By opting for the moment on a rotating picket method on the different sites, the strikers have the desire to maintain this coordination and continue to extend the strike. Aware of having the possibility of building a major strike that can go all the way, they are attacking this challenge with contagious enthusiasm.
