Motorways in and around North Rhine-Westphalia are currently completely closed. In October, the A1, A3 and A46, among others, are affected. All closures at a glance.
Cologne – Whether on the A1, A3, A57, A61 or another motorway: Drivers in and around North Rhine-Westphalia will have to be patient again in 2023. Almost every week a new route is partially or fully closed. Especially at the traffic junctions around Cologne, Düsseldorf and the Ruhr area, there are always construction sites, diversions and therefore a lot of traffic jams. These disruptions are currently or will soon occur in West Germany.
These motorway closures are currently in place in and around North Rhine-Westphalia
A1 near Osnabrück: On Sunday (October 22nd) the A1 will be completely closed between the Osnabrück-Nord and Osnabrück-Hafen junctions. Both directions are closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Diversions run via the U64 and U1.A1, A43 and A46 near Wuppertal: From Friday (October 20th) to Monday (October 23rd), the A1, A43 and A46 will be closed at various points at the Wuppertal Nord motorway junction. The reason is a bridge blowing up.A31 in Emsland: Since September 25, 2023, the A31 has been partially completely closed in the direction of North Rhine-Westphalia for months.A40 near Duisburg: Near Duisburg, the A40 will be temporarily completely closed in two sections between October 20th and November 6th. According to Autobahn GmbH Rheinland, various work will take place on the road during this time.A44 near Krefeld/Mönchengladbach: From October 20th to 23rd, the A44 will be completely closed due to route renovations between Krefeld and Mönchengladbach.A45 near Lüdenscheid: The motorway has been fully closed between Lüdenscheid-Nord and the Schlittenbach valley bridge since December 2021 and is expected to remain closed until the end of 2026. The reason is the dilapidated A45 Rahmede viaduct, which was blown up on Sunday (May 7th).A544 near Aachen: New damage was discovered on the Haarbachtal Bridge. Since July 24th (1 a.m.), the motorway has been completely closed in the direction of Cologne between Europaplatz and Würselen.A553 near Brühl: From November 3rd to 6th, the motorway directly at Phantasialand will be completely closed.A555 near Wesseling: From October 20th to 23rd, Autobahn GmbH will renew the road surface. The A555 is therefore completely closed between the Wesseling and Godorf junctions in the direction of Cologne.A560 near Sankt Augustin: The motorway will be completely closed on several nights between the Sankt Augustin-West motorway triangle and the Sankt Augustin junction in the direction of Hennef: from October 18th to 19th, October 19th to 20th and October 20th to 21st. NRW: These motorway closures will come in 2023 and 2024
A1 near Cologne/Leverkusen: The A1 Rhine Bridge between Cologne and Leverkusen will be completely closed in January 2024 to allow traffic to be rerouted.A31 near Coesfeld: There are repeated closures on the A31 in the north of North Rhine-Westphalia for several months for renovation work.
