Health Department (Dinkes) DKI Jakarta reported one case monkey pox or monkeypox re-discovered in DKI Jakarta. Thus, currently there are three cases of monkey pox in Indonesia.
Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, Ngabila Salama, said the additional cases of monkey pox were confirmed on October 19 2023.
“Add one positive case monkeypox “I was only diagnosed yesterday, October 19 2023,” said Ngabila in his statement, Friday (20/10).
Ngabila said that currently there have been three cases of monkey pox in Indonesia since it was first reported in August 2022. The three positive confirmed cases were found in Jakarta.
“One case was detected in August 2022, one case on October 12 2023, and one case on October 19 2023. All were found in Jakarta,” he said.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) said that the monkey pox patient found in DKI Jakarta in August 2022 had not recovered. The patient is still under treatment.
“Not yet cured, still being treated,” said Head of the Ministry of Health’s Communications and Community Services Bureau, Siti Nadia Tarmizi CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (18/10).
Apart from that, continued Nadia, the monkey pox patient in Jakarta who was found on October 14 2023 is also still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Reported on the Ministry of Health’s website, monkey pox is a rare zoonotic disease caused by a viral infection monkeypox. The monkeypox virus belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus in the family Poxviridae.
The monkeypox virus can be transmitted when a person comes into contact with the virus from an infected animal, an infected person, or material contaminated with the virus.
