Updated Aurus Senat: what the flagship Russian sedan will be like
The Chinese brand Hongqi (the Russian representative office insists on pronunciation “Honchi” with an emphasis on the second syllable) held a presentation of the current model range and shared its development plans in our market. Officially, the flagship division of the FAW concern in Russia made its debut only this spring after almost a year of preparation, during which a dealer network was formed while the Hongqi brand cars themselves were being certified. At the start of sales, the model range included four models – the H5 and H9 sedans, as well as the HS5 and E-HS9 crossovers. Now it has become known that new cars will join them within a few months.
In the near future, the current line in Russia will be complemented by an extended version of the flagship Hongqi H9 sedan (pictured above) – a luxurious modification with an even more spacious second row and an expanded list of equipment will have the status of a separate model, and there is very little time left to wait for its local premiere.
In China, such sedans are available with powerful V6 engines instead of two-liter turbo-fours and air suspension.
The niche between the mid-size Hongqi HS5 SUV and the flagship Hongqi E-HS9 electric crossover will soon be occupied by the large HS7 model (pictured above) with three rows of seats. The debut of the second-generation crossover with a length of 4995 mm in the Middle Kingdom took place in the summer, although the previous model lasted on the assembly line for only four years.
In China, the new product is offered with a two-liter turbo engine, as well as with a hybrid power plant.

The junior SUV Hongqi HS3 (pictured above) will also appear in Russia, although it still cannot be called compact: from bow to stern, the car with a two-liter turbo engine and a hybrid superstructure measures a very respectable 4655 mm.
Sales of these cars started in the domestic market in the summer, but HS3, apparently, will not reach us until next year.
Later, the Russian debut of the updated Hongqi HS5 crossover with a length of 4785 mm is expected (the first public display of the model took place in April at the Shanghai Motor Show), as well as the release of the expensive Hongqi HQ9 minivan (pictured below) with a two-liter gasoline turbo engine and front-wheel drive – supply of single-volume vehicles through parallel import channels The Russian representative office plans to start in the near future, but “official” cars will appear on our market only after certification is completed.
At the same time, the company assures that the price lists for such cars will not differ significantly from the prices of cars from the first batches.
In short, Hongqi is preparing a large-scale attack on our market. And new modifications, which the company is developing with an eye on Russian buyers, will help strengthen the position of the Chinese brand. The details are still being kept secret, but the local representative office hinted that as the volume of exports increases, we will have versions, for example, with all-wheel drive transmissions, which are not available in China itself. However, the release of such machines will probably have to wait.
