A minor was injured after a piece of the ceiling of his classroom fell off and fell on him in the province of Villa Clara.
According to state blogger Henry Omar Pérez, the incident occurred this Thursday, October 19, at the ‘Julio Antonio Mella’ Basic Secondary School, located in the municipality of Caibarién.
The photographs shared in the publication show that a considerable piece fell off the roof due to the deterioration of the building, thus injuring a ninth grade student.
The publication states that the minor is “without danger to life” and that he is being cared for by specialists.
Likewise, it was indicated that the detachment of part of the roof was due to the heavy rains that were recorded in the region in recent days.
“The event occurred due to the detachment of a part of the plaster from the roof structure due to the rains,” reported the official blogger, who added that the authorities of the Party and the Government arrived at the scene to “evaluate the situation.”
For its part, the independent media CubaNet He stated that this was not the first time that an accident like this has occurred in that school, whose classrooms have not received the necessary care for years.
A source, who remained anonymous for fear of reprisals, noted that other minors have been injured in previous years for the same reason.
“It is not the first time it happens. Last year a piece of ceiling fell from another classroom and cracked a child’s head. The school is in collapse and they are neither repairing it nor closing it,” he indicated.
Additionally, he states that the school authorities do nothing either, as if they were waiting for something worse to happen to start acting.
“It seems that they are waiting for a misfortune. I spoke with the teacher about this situation and she downplayed the injuries that the two affected children have now. She says they are ‘superficial’, as if you only have to act when something terrible happens,” she declared.
Several users on social networks blamed the school, arguing that a roof does not fall like that from one day to the next, so this showed that they were not attentive to the deplorable state of their facilities.
Others couldn’t help but point out that, while state buildings like schools fall apart, the regime continues to approve the construction of luxury hotels, as if that were the answer to the country’s problems.
