The state prize for literature was awarded to the novelist Jiří Kratochvila for the collection of short stories Škrtiči bohyně Kálí, taking into account the previous work.

The state award for translation work was awarded to Jarka Vrbová for her lifelong contribution to conveying Norwegian literature to the Czech reader and her exemplary professionalism.

The award of the Ministry of Culture for contribution in the field of theater was awarded to Arnošt Goldflam for his authorial contribution to Czech theater in every respect; and Jaroslav Mihule received it for his contribution in the field of music for his lifelong musicological and pedagogical activity.

As a specialist in the personality and legacy of Bohuslav Martinů, during the period of socialism, he contributed to the promotion and recognition of the work of this Czech composer, who was deliberately neglected by the communist regime, at home and abroad. He invested considerable organizational, dramaturgical and journalistic efforts in his activities, during which he demonstrated brave civic attitudes.

“We are living through a complex and uncertain historical moment. We are facing probably the greatest challenges in the history of the independent, free Czech Republic. I challenge political and social, local as well as global. It is all the more necessary in this situation to appreciate culture as an important certainty, as a memory, as an oasis of its own kind. But also as encouragement and motivation for further creative work,” said Baxa.

State prizes and Ministry of Culture prizes are always awarded on the occasion of the national holiday on October 28.
