Kazakhstan Bans Military Goods Deliveries to Russia: Updates on Drones, Electrochips, and Specialized Electronics

The ban applies in particular to drones, as well as electrochips and other specialized electronics that can be used in military operations, reports “KazTAG”. Restrictions apply to goods of both Kazakh and foreign manufacturers.

The Kazakh authorities announced the suspension of military goods deliveries to Russia already in May 2022. However, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitted that some private companies continue to re-export banned goods that end up in the war zone in Ukraine. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Kazakh authorities are trying to stop such transactions.

Astana’s intention to limit Russia’s ability to purchase military-related goods through Kazakhstan was also confirmed by the country’s president, Kasim Zomart Tokaev. After talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on September 28, he announced that Astana will continue to comply with the sanctions regime imposed on Russia by Western countries.
