According to investigators, it is still unclear whether the man is a suspect, a witness or an uninvolved person. The police suspect a serial killer. The Association of Friends of the Vienna Police has offered 10,000 euros for information that leads to the identification of the perpetrator.

Two people killed, one seriously injured

Two men were killed and a woman was seriously injured in knife attacks in the summer. Everyone had spent the night in sleeping bags when the perpetrator stabbed them. On July 12, a 56-year-old man was found stabbed to death on a park bench at Handelskai in Vienna-Brigittenau.

On July 22nd, a 51-year-old woman suffered serious injuries from stabs and cuts in the Venediger Au in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. She was taken to a hospital, which she has since been able to leave. Most recently, a knife attack was carried out in Vienna-Josefstadt near Hernalser Gurtel 22 on the night of August 9th, with the 55-year-old man succumbing to his injuries like the first victim.

Further information requested

The man can be seen on video footage from cameras in the Hernalser Belt area on August 9th between 1:19 a.m. and 1:40 a.m. and should report to the police. He is slim and approximately 1.85 to 1.92 meters tall. “This man’s perceptions are of great importance to investigators,” it was emphasized. Any information will be treated as strictly confidential and should be sent to the Vienna State Criminal Police Office on 01-31310-33800 or by email to tips-obdachlose@polizei.gv.at.
