Coach Indonesian National team Shin Tae Yong He is said to be optimistic about taking the Garuda squad through to the Group F stage 2026 World Cup Qualification.

This was stated by assistant coach Nova Arianto after the 2023 Media Cup press conference in Tebet, Thursday (19/10). Nova said the entire national team coaching staff believes Indonesia’s chance of qualifying is very big.

“Coach Shin [Tae Yong] I’m sure we can get away [dari persaingan Grup F],” said Nova regarding the tight competition in Group F for the 2026 World Cup Qualification from November 2023 to June 2024.

The optimism of the National Team coaching team is not without reason. Apart from the fact that the quality of the Garuda team is considered to have increased, the opponent’s strength has also been studied carefully.

Nova said the strengths of Iraq, Vietnam and the Philippines had been mapped. Shin even sent a team of analysts to watch the Iraq versus Jordan match live on October 17.

“We have monitored our potential opposing teams, including Iraq, where we sent an analysis team. Vietnam and the Philippines often meet at the AFF,” said Nova regarding the strength of the National Team’s opponents.

“So I think the strength is not much different from the AFF. Iraq is an opponent that we have not yet fought, so we are monitoring it,” said the former Persib Bandung player.

The first opponent Asnawi Mangkualam Bahar and friends will face is Iraq. The match will take place on November 16, possibly in Amman.

Five days later, November 21 to be precise, the red and white team will play the Philippines. Initially Indonesia was the host, but PSSI proposed playing in the Philippines first.
