Former Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Bribery and Gratification

Former Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe sentenced to 8 years in prison in a bribery and gratification case. The judge also sentenced Lukas Enembe’s political rights to be revoked for 5 years.

“Imposing an additional crime in the form of revoking the right to be elected to public office for 5 years after the Defendant has served the main sentence,” said presiding judge Rianto Adam Pontoh when reading the verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Thursday (19/10/2023).

The judge was of the opinion that the revocation of the right to be elected to public office for 5 years had sufficient legal grounds. Because, according to the judge, Lukas’ actions had damaged public trust.

Lukas Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

Lukas Enembe was sentenced to prison. The judge stated that Lukas was proven guilty in the bribery and gratification case.

“On trial, declaring the defendant Lukas Enembe legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing criminal acts of corruption and gratification,” said presiding judge Rianto Adam Pontoh at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Jalan Bungur Besar Raya, Central Jakarta, Thursday (19/10).

“Sentenced the defendant Lukas Enembe to prison,” he continued.

The judge also sentenced Lukas to pay a fine of Rp. 500 million, a subsidiary of 4 months. Lukas was found guilty of violating Article 12 letter a of the Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code and Article 12B of the Corruption Eradication Law.
