Liverpool’s Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah has released a statement calling on world leaders to prevent further killings of innocent people in the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine.
The 31-year-old Salah, an indispensable player for Liverpool, whose services are heavily interested in clubs from Saudi Arabia, spoke on the X Network to call for immediate humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
“The people of Gaza are in urgent need of food, water and medical supplies,” Salah said in the video.
Israeli warplanes and artillery bombard Gaza in response to an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, when Palestinian terrorists from the ruling Hamas group killed 1,400 people.
Attacks on Gaza have killed more than 3,000 people.
Hundreds of people were killed in an airstrike in a hospital in Gaza on Tuesday evening. Palestinian officials say an Israeli airstrike caused the explosion at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital. But the Israeli military says it was the result of a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
“There was too much violence, grief and brutality,” Mohamed Salah said. He called the hospital scenes terrifying.
The statements of top footballers at Salah’s level on the conflict in Gaza are rather exceptional. Salah has been criticized by the Egyptian media for not using his influence to speak out about what is happening in the Middle East. On Wednesday, the mentioned statement appeared on his account on the X social network.
Defender Atál eliminated from Nice
The events surrounding French Nice defender Jusef Atál caused a great stir. The Algerian was dropped from his squad after he shared a video of a Palestinian preacher using anti-Semitism on his Instagram. For example, it was said that God should send all Jews into darkness. Atál’s employer and currently the other Ligue 1 team suspended the player. “The player admitted his mistake and apologized publicly. However, we still take the whole matter seriously, so we have decided to exclude him from the squad until further notice,” the club statement read.
