In relation to the recent incident of a Chinese group who smuggled into the sea off Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province on a ship, Chinese maritime authorities arrested five additional suspects.
On the 19th, the Coast Guard announced that the Chinese Coast Guard arrested five additional suspects in the Boryeong sea smuggling incident and also discovered a vessel used for smuggling.
A total of six people have been arrested so far, including one suspect caught in China on the 6th.
The arrested suspects were in their 30s and 40s and were only involved in the process of preparing for illegal entry, including recruiting ships to sail from China to Korea.
Of the six people, five were identified as male and one was identified as female.
It is known that the control room of the smuggled ship discovered by the Chinese Coast Guard was equipped with navigational equipment such as ship radar, satellite navigation system, and communication device.
In addition, one of the four engines mounted on the stern was found to have been punctured by a bullet fired by the Korean Coast Guard as a warning shot while the ship was escaping into Chinese waters.
The Chinese Coast Guard has identified eight local suspects involved in this incident and is pursuing the remaining two, including the captain and crew member who operated the vessel.
The Coast Guard is continuing to investigate whether there are any facilitators of illegal immigration into the country.
Previously, at around 1:53 a.m. on the 3rd, 22 Chinese nationals who entered the country illegally by swimming after jumping into the sea wearing life jackets and swimming 3.7km southwest of Daecheon Port, Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, were caught by the coast guard.
They hid in the waters of Daecheon Port, on the beach, or in the port parking lot, or fled to Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, but were arrested and detained one after another.
The ship carrying them dropped off the Chinese smugglers at sea and immediately fled to avoid being pursued by the coast guard at the time.
