Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – After a series of shootings in the Stuttgart area, the Stuttgart regional court sentenced four people involved to prison sentences of several years on Wednesday. The men were accused of taking part in an exchange of fire between two groups in front of a restaurant in Esslingen-Mettingen in September last year. The men had to answer for attempted murder, a court spokesman said. Two of them were also accused of illegal possession of weapons.
According to a court spokesman, the main defendant was sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison. Another defendant received a youth sentence of five years. Two people involved were each sentenced to four years and three years in prison. According to SWR, these are the first verdicts in connection with the series of shots. The trial began in March of this year. The judgments are not yet final.
There have been repeated shots at people in the greater Stuttgart area for months. Investigators suspect rival groups are behind this. Ten people were also injured in a hand grenade attack on a funeral service in Altbach (Esslingen district).
Another man has been charged with the shooting in Esslingen-Mettingen. Starting this Thursday, he will have to answer in six cases before the Stuttgart regional court, among other things, for attempted murder.
