Microsoft wants to unite the entire community after joining Activision Blizzard Call of Duty and offer the same experience and identical content on all platforms without any exclusivity. So it doesn’t matter if you play on PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox or PC.
This was stated by Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s gaming division, in the official Xbox podcast. Call of Duty should be the same on all platforms, the differences will be only in resolution, graphics and performance depending on the individual hardware. By doing so, he was probably referring to the much weaker Switch. However, the goal is to make everyone feel included.
As we know, Microsoft has signed an agreement with Sony and Nintendo that Call of Duty will be released on PlayStation and Nintendo for at least 10 years.
„We don’t want to use Call of Duty to sell Xbox consoles. We’ve been on the other side of all those skins, time exclusives, and even this beta (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, editor’s note) that wasn’t on Xbox for the first week. I don’t think it helps the community, it’s not good for the game either.” Spencer stated.
An Xbox executive confirmed earlier information from Activision Blizzard that games won’t make it to Game Pass until 2024. Due to uncertainty in the UK authority’s decision-making, Microsoft teams did not work with Activision Blizzard before the acquisition was approved. So they are only starting work now. It was different for Bethesda in 2021, and Microsoft added the first titles right after the merger was completed.
Activision Blizzard previously confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo 4 will be available on Game Pass in 2024. More games are expected to be added, including older ones.
