Israeli forces shot dead two Palestinian boys near Ramallah in the West Bank on Wednesday, after protests against the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials said.
Their deaths bring the number of Palestinians who died in the latest escalation of violence to at least 64 in the West Bank, in a sharp increase in clashes with the army and settlers.
Israel is preparing for a ground attack on the Gaza Strip in response to the attack launched by the Palestinian Hamas movement on October 7, which resulted in the killing of 1,400 Israelis, most of them civilians, according to the Israeli authorities.
In response, Israeli forces carried out their heaviest bombing of Gaza, killing more than 3,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to authorities in the Strip.
A statement issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the occupation forces shot two boys, one aged 15 and the other 17, in the village of Shuqba, west of Ramallah. The statement did not add further details.
Residents told Reuters that the two boys were trying to light tires in protest against Israel when they were shot dead.
These events come the day after a hospital in Gaza was hit by a strike that killed about 500 people on Tuesday.
