Israel Agrees to Humanitarian Aid from Egypt to Gaza, Biden Announces Additional $100 Million Aid

“Israel has agreed that humanitarian aid can start moving from Egypt to Gaza,” Biden said during a visit to Israel, adding that the United States was working with partners to “get the trucks across the border as quickly as possible.”

If Hamas diverts or steals aid, it will have demonstrated once again that it does not care about the well-being of the Palestinian people.”

Biden also announced that an additional $100 million in humanitarian aid would be provided to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that Israel “will not delay the delivery of humanitarian aid from Egypt, as long as it is only food, water and medicine for civilians in the southern Gaza Strip.”

But it “will not allow any humanitarian aid from its territory to the Gaza Strip until our hostages are returned,”

Bordered by Israel to the north and east and Egypt to the south, the Gaza Strip is home to approximately two million people.

The Israeli army has repeatedly called for the evacuation of civilians in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, in preparation for a possible ground attack.

The Palestinian militant group “Hamas” carried out a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7, firing several thousand rockets and infiltrating several places in the territory of Israel. More than 1,400 people have been killed and about 4,000 injured in Israel’s attack by Hamas.

Israel responded with counterfire and has deployed troops and military equipment to the border of the Gaza Strip.
