As part of its distinguished launch since its opening, the Mohammed bin Rashid Library will organize, the day after tomorrow, Friday, a screening of a wonderful group of short films from around the world that have won prestigious international awards, as part of its vision to enhance the importance of cinematic culture among its visitors and members.
Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrouei, a member of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, said: “This distinguished evening constitutes an important cultural hub that clearly reflects our vision and strategy to spread culture and arts and reshape the cinematic and critical taste among members of society, as short films are considered a pioneering platform that allows the expression of visions.” And ideas and societal issues in a short time, which enhances discussion and critical thinking among viewers, which makes it a powerful tool for raising cultural and social awareness,” adding: “We also seek, through this evening full of creativity and uniqueness, to highlight the beauty of cinema and provide an opportunity for our audience to explore new horizons of artistic excellence.” ».
During the cinema evening, the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, in cooperation with the Cinelio Company, will display 4 Arab and international short films translated into English, including: a Lebanese documentary entitled “Beneath the Wild Blue Sky,” directed by Rula Shamas, and an animation film. A Japanese animation entitled “A Bite of Bone”, directed by Honami Yano, in addition to an animated film called “The Box”, from Slovenia, directed by Dusan Kastilić, as well as a film from North Korea entitled “Sprout”, directed by Yoon Ja Eun.
The four films present a group of distinctive experiences from different parts of the world, as they take us on a journey from Lebanon to rescue a great white swan to become part of a man’s life, and move to Japan, where a young girl meditates on her memories of her father at his funeral, to sail to Slovenia, where she discovers the joy of thinking outside the box. The box through creatures that live in a box, and finally to North Korea where a young girl begins her first journey to buy bean sprouts for her mother.
The films vary in presentation styles, between documentaries, novels, and animation, to provide an important insight into human experiences and personal stories that are suitable for all ages.
At the beginning of the show, the famous Emirati director Nawaf Al Janahi will give a speech highlighting the evening and the short films that will be shown, and their role and importance in the local and international art scene. A discussion session will also be organized with Al Janahi at the end of the evening, opening the door for the audience to highlight their visions and ideas about the films shown. .
