Approximate reading time: 1 minute, 33 seconds

The State of Israel and Spain are immersed in a diplomatic crisis as a result of the military intervention in the Gaza Strip, which a part of the Spanish government, represented by the left of Podemos, described as an attempt to “exterminate” the Palestinian people and of “war crimes”.

Furthermore, the Minister of Social Affairs, Ione Belarra, of Podemos, urged the Spanish government to present a criminal complaint before the International Court of Justice in The Hague for “genocide” against the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, declared the crises over, stating that “for our part, this specific incident has been resolved.”

The Israeli diplomatic delegation in Spain expressed its discomfort with the Spanish government over the position of a part of the Executive, represented by the left-wing coalition of Unidas Podemos (UP), regarding the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli embassy expressed “deep disgust” at the words expressed by members of the government who accused the State of Israel of “war crimes” and of perpetrating “a genocide”, in reference to the UP ministers. She even described that the words and gestures of the Spanish ministers represented an act of “connivance” with the “terrorism of the style of groups like Daesh” and that they put the Jewish population in Spain at “risk”, which, according to the ambassador, They could suffer attacks and aggression as a result of the words of the ministers of the Spanish government.

These words caused deep discomfort in the Spanish Foreign Minister, Albares, who described his statement as an “unfriendly gesture” for Spain. Albares also explained that “when it comes to foreign policy, it is very evident that there are only two authorized voices: that of the President of the Government and that of the Minister of Foreign Affairs”, so – he added – “there is no need to clarify to There is no country in the world where the only two voices authorized in the Government to mark Spain’s position in foreign policy are those of the president and his Foreign Minister. Because that’s what happens in all the countries of the world.”

Albares recalled that “from the first minute in which the attack by Hamas occurred, from the Spanish government we condemn the terrorist attack by a terrorist organization and we demand the immediate and unconditional release of all the hostages and we regret and deplore all the innocent victims. that are occurring.”

Furthermore, he added, “we recognize Israel’s right to defend itself against this terrorist attack, however any action taken to repel this terrorist attack must be in compliance with International Law and International Humanitarian Law.”
