In his memoirs The Woman in Me, to be released in the United States on October 24, Britney Spears reveals that she had a voluntary termination of pregnancy when she was in a relationship with Justin Timberlake, another American star. “If the decision had been mine, I would never have done it,” she wrote about her abortion, according to an extract published by the magazine People.
“But Justin was so sure he didn’t want to be a father,” adds the now 41-year-old singer. “Even today, it is one of the most difficult experiences of my life,” she wrote. Britney Spears says she met Justin Timberlake when they were both kids, starring in the Disney TV show “The Mickey Mouse Club.”
A desire for other children thwarted by being placed under guardianship
The two teenagers began dating several years later, becoming one of the most scrutinized couples in the entertainment industry, before separating in 2002. Asked by AFP, Justin Timberlake did not respond in the ‘immediate.
Britney Spears has two boys, Sean and Jayden, from a marriage to Kevin Federline. Justin Timberlake had two children, in 2015 and 2020, with Jessica Biel, whom he met in 2007, after having multiplied short love stories in the early 2000s.
Britney Spears further described in The Woman in Me her years of fighting against her father to be freed from her guardianship, decided in 2008 due to psychological disorders. This guardianship, deemed “abusive” by the singer, prevented her in particular from removing her contraceptive IUD despite her desire to have other children.
“Sick” of having his body controlled by his father
Nearly fourteen years later, and at the end of a high-profile legal saga, a Los Angeles court lifted the guardianship in November 2021 to allow him to regain control of his personal life. “I think now about my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for so long, and it makes me sick,” Britney Spears writes in her memoir.
In August, her third husband Sam Asghari filed for divorce after 14 months of marriage. The couple had announced a month before their union in June 2022 that the singer had suffered a miscarriage.
