World Health Organization Condemns Unprecedented Attack on National Arab Hospital in Gaza Strip

The World Health Organization confirmed that the attack on the National Arab Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, which claimed the lives of hundreds, was “unprecedented in its scope,” and condemned the attack.

The representative of the World Health Organization in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Richard Peppercorn, said, “This attack is unprecedented in scope. We are witnessing continuing attacks on health care in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

The World Health Organization’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Ahmed Al-Manzari, said that the hospital had patients, health care workers and internally displaced people when it was bombed. He added, “The hospital is one of 20 hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip facing evacuation orders from the Israeli army.” He went on to say, “It was impossible to implement the evacuation order given the current lack of security, the critical condition of many patients, the lack of ambulances and employees, the bed capacity in the health system, and the alternative shelter for the displaced.”
