VfL Bochum wants its first win of the season, Frankfurt’s entry Niels Nkounkou is hoping for his starting eleven debut after his dream debut against 1. FC Köln.
Niels Nkounkou came to Eintracht Frankfurt from AS St.-Étienne on Deadline Day for around seven million euros. And against 1. FC Köln he celebrated the perfect debut.
He came on in the 73rd minute for junior Dina Ebimbe and he only needed ten minutes to arrive perfectly at Eintracht. Because in the 87th minute he rewarded Hesse’s attack against 1. FC Cologne with his goal to make it 1-1.
Now the left-footed player is hoping to be in the starting lineup at VfL Bochum on Saturday (6:30 p.m.). In a press conference he emphasized: “I was able to work well during the international break. We’ll see what the coach decides on Saturday. I feel ready and am looking forward to the game.”
Nkounkou, who has never been at a club for long in recent years, now wants to stay longer in Frankfurt, as he himself explained: “It’s true, I’ve been traveling a lot lately. But I want stability at a club, I want to be here for the long term and keep learning.”
With a view to the Bundesliga, he experiences a “higher intensity”, hence his first conclusion: “I know that I have to continue to work on my physique. I will.”
He will get proof on Saturday in the Ruhr Stadium. There is extreme intensity here in the stands and on the pitch. And VfL midfielder Kevin Stöger promises Eintracht a hot dance: “It will be extremely difficult. Frankfurt has enormous quality. They don’t try to play with long balls, they have a lot of individual class. If we perform as a team, throw everything in and are disgusting, then we can beat Frankfurt at home.”
Nkounkou should also feel how disgusting VfL can be at home when he starts. Because there are hardly any failures at Eintracht, coach Dino Toppmöller is spoiled for choice.
Stöger is still hoping for his first win of the season: “The last two games were good. They just weren’t very good because we couldn’t get the three points. The way we performed was fine. Now we can go one step further, Then it can work against Eintracht with the first win.”
