Emirates Mars Exploration Project Captures 3D Images of Deimos, the Martian Moon

Dubai: Yamama Badwan

The Emirates Mars Exploration Project, “Hope Probe,” revealed that it documented the red planet’s moon, Deimos, with 26 three-dimensional images, at its closest orbit to the moon at an altitude of (352-406 km), on August 23.

According to a 50-second video clip that he posted on “X”, he explained that the digital exploration camera captured a group of images at an interval of up to one minute, and then they were combined to provide duos of three-dimensional images, forming 4 duos of images that were captured, through the x-ray filter. Red “635 nanometers”, while work was done on standards for these images by removing the effect of the digital exploration camera on them, and then adjusting the contrast and brightness, to improve Deimos’ vision. The Emirates Mars Exploration Project indicated that these images allow obtaining three-dimensional views of the Martian moon Deimos, which is characterized by its small size and irregular shape. Three-dimensional glasses of red color for the right eye and cyan color for the left eye can be used to view the images that represent an introduction to important data added. To some of the sporadic observations that took place of the Martian moons Deimos and Phobos during the past 50 years.

The probe flew next to Demos for the first time at the end of January and the beginning of last February, where instrument calibration operations were carried out to support obtaining high-definition and accuracy images with its three devices, which are the digital exploration camera, the infrared spectrometer, and the ultraviolet spectrometer. “Deimos” is considered the least monitored and understood due to its small size and its rotation in a wider orbit every 30 hours, unlike “Phobos”, which is distinguished by its larger size and the proximity of its orbit to the planet Mars, which is considered the most suitable for sensing by previous spacecraft, most of which are located on Mars. Lower altitudes of the planet.
