A report of corruption against the Bulgarian European Prosecutor Teodora Georgieva, signed with the name of the former investigator Petyo Petrov-Pepi Evroto, was received at the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office. From there, they did not commit whether the text was actually signed by the wanted Petrov.
According to the allegations in the report, which was first published in the BGNES agency, from 2019 to 2023, Petrov gave bribes of BGN 10,000 per month to Georgieva, the head of the district prosecutor’s office Nevena Zartova, prosecutor Angel Popkolev and other magistrates. It is also claimed that he was also sent to the European Chief Prosecutor Laura Köveshi, as well as to the still non-existent Commission for Combating Corruption.
Pasquil and an attack by the bosses of Pepi Euroto – that’s how Teodora Georgieva defined the report against her, asked by “24 Chasa” for a comment. She has been the representative of the Bulgarian office at the European Prosecutor’s Office since September 2020. According to the allegations, Petyo Evroto gave her money to complete pre-trial proceedings as he wanted.
The transfer of money took place in the VIP room of the “Eight Dwarfs”, which, however, closed its doors in January 2021, when the European Public Prosecutor’s Office was not yet actively working. Before that, Teodora Georgieva was a judge in the Sofia Administrative Court.
Petyo Petrov, who has become a member of the judiciary and owner of the restaurant “Osemte djujeta”, is accused of influence peddling, illegal records and material concealment. He was revealed by the public confessions of the businessman Iliya Zlatanov that he sought his services to arrest his son Yavor, with whom they argued about their joint companies. Then, during the investigation, gold was seized from his son, which was later collected by Petyo Euroto’s wife. Zlatanov also talked about his close contacts with special prosecutors. Petyo Petrov was investigated and charged after the replacement of Ivan Geshev as chief prosecutor.
He has been wanted since the end of May, when the police did not find him at his known addresses in Bulgaria. Then he ran away with his child from his ex-wife Lyubena Petrova, but 3 months later mysteriously returned him to the mother. Petrov is still missing. In the text on his behalf, he accuses himself of a crime – he claims that he paid BGN 10,000 a month in bribes to Georgieva, he is ready to testify and fears for his life.
These are Mr. Geshev’s tricks that continue even now. The European Prosecutor’s Office stopped thefts worth tens of millions and they want to discredit me, Teodora Georgieva told “24 Chasa”. She defined the signal as anonymous – the authorities do not know where Petrov is, and he sends signals that are checked. She shared that she knew such an attack was being prepared against her.
The question is who gives this money to Pepi the Euro to give away. Who is this permanent client of the prosecutor’s office? asked Teodora Georgieva.
Teodora Georgieva has been a European prosecutor since September 2020, when Pepi Euroto’s interference in the judiciary was already brought to light.
Asked by “24 Chasa”, the head of the district prosecutor’s office in Sofia, Nevena Zartova, refused to comment. Last week, the Supreme Judicial Council refused to elect her as a European prosecutor, and before that Borislav Sarafov asked the personnel to discipline her.
Nevena Zartova has been the head of the district prosecutor’s office since November 2020, two months before Euroto’s restaurant was closed following protests against it and an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Fund, which found it involved in influence peddling in the judiciary. Before assuming the leadership position, Zartova was on maternity leave, an investigation by “24 Hours” showed.
