The Swiss terror victim in Brussels was from Bern. As can be seen from entries in the YB forum, he was a big football fan. The terror victim was in a taxi on the way to a game in his home country Sweden in Brussels when he and a friend were shot dead by the attacker. “I can hardly believe it,” writes one man. “We wanted to go to the YB City game next week.” In response to the entry, other fans expressed their condolences and dismay. YB will play against Manchester City in the Champions League in Wankdorf next week.
The deceased was also a member of FC Steffisburg. The club writes on Facebook that the entire FC family is mourning the man who was shot.
As “Blick” reported, the victim was 60 years old and worked for the SBB. He was also a junior soccer coach.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs had previously confirmed that one of the victims was resident in Switzerland. The second death was a 70-year-old man from Sweden. After the attack became known, the European Championship qualifier between Belgium and Sweden was canceled on Monday evening.
The police hermetically sealed off the crime scene on Monday evening. The attacker was later shot dead by police.

The day after the deadly shooting in Brussels, Europe’s national football teams will remember the victims with a minute’s silence. The European football association Uefa announced this on Tuesday.
The perpetrator, who comes from Tunisia and was traveling on a scooter, was caught by the police. He was fatally injured in an exchange of fire with the Belgian police.
The assassin was known to the authorities. The 45-year-old Tunisian applied for asylum in Belgium in 2019. It was said that he came to the attention of the police in connection with human trafficking, illegal residence and endangering state security.
