The Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train: Whoosh Fast Train Fares and Time-Savings

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) responded to the issue of fares for the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train or Whoosh Fast Train which is said to reach IDR 600,000 for first class.

KCIC Main Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi himself did not deny the tariff issue. According to him, the tariff of Rp. 600,000 could be applied because it targets the upper class segment, such as big bosses.

“The tariff is a perception. If it’s IDR 600,000 first class, then the bosses will also target us. The bosses are really thinking about access? Thinking about time,” he said when met at Halim Station, Jakarta, Tuesday (17/10/2023).

According to him, the time-saving benefits of using the Whoosh Fast Train have been recognized. As is known, by fast train passengers from Jakarta to Bandung only takes 45 minutes.

Dwiyana said that he received a testimonial from one of the passengers who admitted that he had ridden the fast train several times and felt the difference in travel time compared to other modes of land transportation.

“This is what some of them said to me. ‘Sir, I’ve tried the fast train 3-4 times. Yesterday by car for 3.5 hours. Jet lag, they said’. That’s what makes them dependent on us, what was originally a need becomes a desire. ,” he said.

Currently, KCIC itself has only implemented a fast train tariff for premium economy class of IDR 150,000 for all routes until the end of November 2023. After that, the tariff determination will be re-evaluated.

Dwiyana revealed that KCIC plans to implement dynamic fast train fares after the promo ends. Because the Whoosh Fast Train is indeed a commercial train.

According to him, the application of dynamic tariffs is generally carried out on PT KAI (Persero) train transportation modes which are commercial, as well as air transportation modes. Where, during peak season, prices can increase.

“We can use dynamic pricing for that tariff. Like a plane, when it goes up and when it goes down depends on the company’s strategy, right? During off-peak times, we lower it. During the holiday season or weekends, we increase it. That’s actually normal,” he explained.
