Informed Iranian sources told Al Jazeera that the administration of US President Joe Biden delivered a message to Tehran’s representative at the United Nations about the situation in the Palestinian territories.
The sources added that Washington’s message included four items demanding that Tehran adopt a de-escalation approach towards what is happening in Gaza, warning that Iran’s direct entry into the confrontation would be met with direct American military action.
“Eliminate Hamas”
Meanwhile, Reuters quoted an unnamed Israeli official – today, Tuesday – that Israel has attacked about 5,000 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
He stressed that Israel is determined to eliminate Hamas, even if it takes months or years, and added that every target bombed in Gaza was “approved by the highest level” in the Israeli army.
Biden said last Sunday that he supports the complete elimination of Hamas, and described it as a group of cowards, as he put it.
