FC Metz: The Good Student of Ligue 1 or Too Nice?

Ligue 1 Disciplinary Council: FC Metz good student or too nice student?

After eight days, Ligue 1 version 2023-2024 displays the lowest average of red cards over the five years: 0.13 compared to 0.4 last season, 0.23 in 2021-2022, 0.44 in 2021-2021 and 0.23 in 2019-2020.

After 72 matches, two clubs received two red cards, Le Havre AC and FC Nantes. Five other teams finished a ten-a-side match (Clermont, Metz, Lyon, Lille, Montpellier).*

Concerning yellow cards, FC Metz is among the clubs having received the fewest warnings since the opening of the championship: 10 tied with PSG behind Le Havre (7), Lorient (8) and Rennes (9).

Moreover, the matches with the lowest total of fouls called by referees are those of FC Metz (168), OGC Nice (172) and Paris Saint-Germain (173).

The Grenats are one of the teams having made the fewest mistakes in 2023-2024: 89 behind Montpellier (74, the match stopped against Clermont is not counted), Marseille (77, Clemont and PSG (82), Rennes (83 ), Lille (89) and Nice (93).

Figures which underline either the fair play of the club at the Croix de Lorraine or its lack (sometimes) of aggressiveness… The debate is open.

*As a reminder, the LFP Disciplinary Commission withdrew the red card given to Adrien Thomasson (Lens) against Brest (1st day).
