While the number of overnight stays fell across Germany in August, Essen continued to show a significant increase. This is proven by the figures from the state statisticians at IT.NRW, which were published today. Compared to August 2019, Essen can look forward to 21.3 percent more overnight stays from guests from home and abroad. If you look at the arrivals of the year so far compared to 2019, Essen is actually the lone leader when compared to the major cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. From January to August, 583,577 people came to the city, an increase of 10 percent. For comparison: Düsseldorf (-2.3 percent), Cologne (+0.1 percent), Dortmund (+2.8 percent). For EMG – Essen Marketing GmbH, the figures are more than pleasing and at the same time a confirmation of their own work. These include, among other things, tourist advertising, attractive major events and successful networking. In addition to growing leisure tourism, the revived trade fair business is also responsible for the positive figures.
