Ulli Link, Managing Director of Human Resources and Organization at VGRD GmbH, describes the special nature of the course: “In the three-year, part-time bachelor’s degree program, we train our employees with the strategically required skills of tomorrow. Three-month phases at the university alternate with three-month phases in the company. In addition to classic topics in business administration and content specifically defined by Volkswagen Group Retail Germany, the focus of the course is on the clear objective of shaping the transformation in the automotive trade. Our students work on industry-relevant strategy topics both at the university and in practice.”
In principle, a broad, basic business administration course is completed in the first four semesters. The content of this overarching part is largely identical for all business administration courses, but is applied in the form of practical car trade-related case studies. In the fifth and sixth semesters, the subject is deepened with certain VGRD-relevant content. The main focus is on digital transformation, change, business model and innovation management.
“Unique in the automotive trade”
“The dual study program at the DHBW is an enormous competitive advantage for Volkswagen Group Retail Germany,” says Dr. Denis Anic, Head of Principles and Communication at VGRD GmbH and initiator of the study project. “Our students will support us on the path to transforming the automotive trade by systematically analyzing the challenges in the car trade, questioning processes and helping to further develop existing business models and develop new ones.”

Jens Wick, project manager at VGRD GmbH for the study project, is enthusiastic: “We are very pleased that we have managed to get a closed VGRD class with 30 students state-accredited. This is not only unique in the automotive trade, it is also very unusual in the Volkswagen Group.”
