Two Swedish citizens were killed in the shooting at 7pm on Monday evening, and a third person was injured. Belgium is investigating the shooting as a terrorist attack.
Newspaper The last news (HLN) names a 45-year-old man living outside Brussels as the man in the video, which was posted on his Facebook profile. In the video, he is wearing an orange jacket and white helmet. The man says his name, calls himself a soldier for IS and says he is behind the murders.
According to HLN, Belgian police have surrounded the man’s home, but at 2.30 on Tuesday night had not yet entered.
Other clips circulating on social media after the murders also show a man in a matching jacket and helmet committing the shooting. It Belgian broadcaster RTBF also mentions the same 45-year-old. The voice in the video speaks Arabic with a strong Tunisian accent, according to RTBF.
Belgian prosecutors believe a motive for the act was to target Swedish citizens. At least one of the victims was wearing a Swedish football kit, as Sweden was due to face Belgium in European Championship qualification on the same evening.
