The National Government and the Central General Staff (EMC), the main dissident of the FARC in Colombia, announced that starting tomorrow, a bilateral ceasefire will begin that will last until January 15, 2024.
According to the decree that regulates this measure, which has been disclosed by the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace, it indicates that the parties reached an agreement of “bilateral and temporary ceasefire of a national nature with territorial impact on the basis of an agreement for the respect of the civilian population.”
The document was published before the installation of a peace negotiation table with the EMC in Tibú, Norte de Santander.
It is necessary to remember that this is the second bilateral ceasefire after the Government suspended the first last May. For this ceasefire, a duration of six months – from January to June – had been contemplated in four departments, but it was interrupted after an EMC front murdered four indigenous minors whom it had recruited.
