Immigrant families with children who are in New York City, housed in one of the 200 active shelters, will have a period of 60 days to leave the shelter and look for alternative housing.
The new measure was announced this Monday by Mayor Eric Adams, through a press release. From now on, they will notify each family to indicate their limit of stay in the shelter.
They also indicated that immigrants from the nuclear family will receive points of contact with social workers during those 60 days, so that they can plan their near future. The mayor’s office called this benefit: “intensified social work services.”
